2008 Entrant List
June

The 13th Annual Running
***NEW
Good news! We have been approved for 200 runners. Please check the entrant list to see if you are on the confirmed list or wait list. Please email with any questions. We also have been approved for an alternate route in the event dangerous high water creek crossings, impassable snowfields or excessively muddy trails make the usual course unusable. The alternate route would be a counter-clockwise
circuit on the Alpine Loop totaling just over 51 miles. Aid Stations would be located at or near Capital City, Engineer Pass, Cinnamon Pass, Sherman Townsite, Williams Creek and County Road 30 at Highway 149 plus the Start /Finish
as usual in the park. This will provide a safe eco-friendly alternative if and only if the usual course is too dangerous, impassable or too fragile.

RACE
IS FULL!!
The waiting list has started. In
years past, we have had 30-40 drops, so
don't hesitate
to
get on the
waiting
list.
Please read all rules and race info before entering this race!! You
must qualify, and there are things we expect you to have read
about, such as the cut-off times at aid stations!
Course update.
Well, as you may know, we have had a bountiful snow
season. There is more snow up high than we have seen in some time. As usual, we are moving forward and planning to run the usual course. We are starting a week later this year than last year and that will help. We hope to have many volunteers to help us provide crossing
guards at the stream crossings in Alpine Gulch and to stomp a track through the snow fields above timberline. However, in the event the Forest Service or BLM should decide that the course is impassible we are making backup plans for a variety of route alterations. Unfortunately, the Special Use Permit application which we file annually will not be
approved until close to race time. Please check the website often and we will update conditions as things melt!
The
San Juan Solstice 50 mile endurance run is a scenic
and very difficult loop through the high San Juans.
The run consists of five main sections: the climb up
Alpine Gulch and down William's Creek, the climb up
to the old mining town of Carson, a long section along
the Continental Divide, a descent to Slumgullion Pass,
and a final hump up and over the Vicker's Ranch plateau.
The San Juan Solstice 50 is for the experienced trail
runner only. For more details, choose a topic in the
navigation bar to go to a specific section.
All
proceeds benefit the Lake City EMTs, our all-volunteer
emergency medical team, most of whom will be helping
at aid stations on race day!
Cancellation Policy
The race committee
reserves the right to cancel or alter the race due to
conditions outside of our control, such
as weather, snowpack, fires, or other acts of nature.
We will do our best to return a portion of the entry
fee if the race is cancelled, but please remember that
we incur a lot of costs and we are a non-profit event.
Runner's safety is our priority.
The
San Juan Solstice 50 Mile Run operates under special
use permits with USFS and the BLM
